Patrol Officer Robert N. Squillante

Patrol Officer Robert N. Squillante was appointed as a full-time police officer on August 3rd, 1993 after graduating from the RI Municipal Police Academy. He was assigned to the patrol division for nine years, and served as one of the Department’s Field Training Officers. In 2002 he was assigned to the Community Policing Unit, where “Officer Bob” served as one of the Departments D.A.R.E. Officers at the elementary and middle school level. As the Community Officer he coordinated many programs, such as the Citizens Police Academy, Female Self Defense Program, Smithfield Leadership Academy and National Night Out. He currently serves as the School Resource Officer at the Smithfield High School – returning to the school from which he graduated in 1985. Patrol Officer Squillante works closely with local elder care facilities, the RI Department of Elderly Affairs, and is one of the Department’s Senior Citizen Advocates. He is the Chairman of the Smithfield Substance Abuse Task Force and works with Tri-Town Community Action Agency in overseeing the Drug Free Communities Grant, which addresses underage drinking through enforcement and education. He is also a T.I.P.S trainer responsible for training local servers to take a proactive approach in preventing underage drinking.
Officer Squillante is involved with local youth organizations serving as a board member for the Smithfield Youth Soccer Association, as well as coaching for Smithfield Little League and the Smithfield School Department. He attended the Community College of Rhode Island and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Patrol Officer Gary E. Masterson
Patrol Officer Gary E. Masterson was appointed as a full-time police officer on December 13th, 1993, after graduating from the RI Municipal Police Academy. He is a North Providence High School graduate, and attended the Community College of Rhode Island as well as Roger Williams College.
Officer Masterson started his career in the Patrol Division. He was later transferred into the Community Policing Unit where he helped create many of the Smithfield Community Programs that are still in effect today. He received extensive training to become a D.A.R.E. Instructor (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) for the middle and elementary schools. He was one of the Departments first certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians, responsible for installing and inspecting child car seats. He created and implemented the Department’s Bike Patrol Unit where trained officers would patrol neighborhoods and business plazas on the specialized police mountain bikes. Officer Masterson also served as the Department’s Senior Citizens’ Advocate and worked closely with the Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs. He was very active with the Special Olympics, raising money for the Special Olympians and participating in the Special Olympic Torch Run, where he roller-bladed from Glocester to North Kingstown – three years in a row. While assigned to the Community Policing Unit he was temporarily transferred into the Detective Division where he investigated various criminal cases.
Officer Masterson completed four years in the Community Policing Unit before transferring back into the Patrol Division. He has also successfully completed extensive firearms training at the FBI Pistol Instructor’s School and serves as one of the Department’s Firearms Instructors. Officer Masterson has recently been re-assigned to the Community Policing Unit and will pick up where he left off as one of the Departments D.A.R.E. Officers with the added certification of School Resource Officer.
Patrol Officer Orlando D. Braxton

Patrol Officer Orlando Braxton was appointed as a full-time police officer on December 3, 1999, after graduating for the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy. He is currently assigned to the Community Policing Unit and serves as one of the department’s D.A.R.E officers. During his career he has worked on all three patrol shifts.
Patrol Officer Braxton recently became a certified Child Passenger Safety Instructor and has joined a statewide instructor team of eight who oversee child passenger safety technicians throughout the State of Rhode Island. He is also a T.I.P.S. trainer who trains local servers to take a proactive approach toward preventing alcohol misuse, underage drinking and maintaining control of the social drinking environment. Officer Braxton administers two grants awarded by the R.I. Department of Transportation, Office on Highway Safety. The Click It or Ticket and Child Passenger Safety grants are aimed at keeping passengers safe while driving on our highways and roads.
Before joining the police department, he attended Anna Maria College, where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. In May of 2007, Officer Braxton graduated Roger Williams University and earned a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
Patrol Officer Michael M. McCoy
Patrol Officer Michael M. McCoy was appointed as a full-time police officer on November 30, 2001, after graduating from the RI Municipal Police Academy. Officer McCoy also graduated in May of 2000 from Salve Regina University, where he majored in the Administration of Justice. While a freshman at Salve Regina, he started at the defensive end position on the varsity football team. He also worked as an intern for the RI State Police and tutored at the RI Training School for Juveniles. In his spare time, Officer McCoy enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Some of his hobbies include: hockey, football, skiing, and spending time outdoors.
Patrol Officer Scott V. Hopkins

Patrol Officer Scott V. Hopkins was appointed as a full-time police officer on June 28th, 2002, after graduating from the RI Municipal Police Academy. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division. Officer Hopkins graduated from Johnston High School in 1995 and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1999. He played Division II college football and started at the center position during all four years of college. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends and is an avid football fan.
Patrol Officer Jeffrey A. Scott
Patrol Officer Jeffrey A. Scott was appointed as a full-time patrol officer on June 28, 2002, after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division. Officer Scott is a 1996 graduate of Lincoln High School where he played a variety of sports, including hockey football and indoor and outdoor track. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from Springfield College in December of 2000. He placed 11th in the Division III Nationals for the Hammer Throw while in college. In his spare time, he enjoys hammer throwing and weight training.
Patrol Officer Paul J. Gorman was appointed as a full time police officer on November 27, 2002, after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He has been assigned to the patrol division and is currently working on the third shift. In 1993 he received the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America, Eagle Scout. Officer Gorman is a 1995 graduate of West Warwick High School where he received several All State awards for playing football, wrestling and baseball. He received an Associates of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from CCRI in 1997. In 2001 Officer Gorman received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement and a concentration in psychology from Johnson & Wales University.
Patrol Officer Peter J. DiMarco

Patrol Officer Peter J. DiMarco was appointed as a full-time police officer on March 12, 2004, after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. Officer DiMarco graduated from Western New England College in 1996 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Government. While attending Western New England College, he played four years of football. When off duty, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Patrol Officer Paul “Mike” Gilmore

Patrol Officer Mike Gilmore was sworn-in as a member of the Smithfield Police Department on November 24th, 2004, after graduating 2nd out of 39 in his class from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He was named the recipient of the Bud Shannon Leadership Award. He is a 1992 graduate of Johnston High School and a 1997 graduate of the University of Hartford, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to becoming a police officer, he was a Correctional Officer for 5½ years with the Rhode Island Department of Corrections and a member of their Emergency Response Team.

Patrol Officer David M. Walsh was appointed as a Smithfield Police Officer on November 24th, 2004 after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is 1998 graduate of East Providence High School where he was a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society. He was also an All-Star Baseball player. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Justice Studies from Rhode Island College in 2003.
Patrol Officer Thomas J. Coleman
Patrol Officer Thomas J. Coleman was appointed as a Smithfield Police Officer on November 23, 2005 after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is a 1995 graduate of Burrillville High School and graduated from Rhode Island College in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Officer Coleman has also attained the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
Patrol Officer Jason A. Corser

Patrol Officer Jason A. Corser was appointed as a full-time police officer on December 1, 2007, after graduating 3rd out of 46 in his class from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is a 1999 graduate of Portsmouth High School and a 2003 graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. In 2005, he received a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division.
Patrol Officer Kyle A. Phillips
Patrol Officer Kyle A. Phillips was sworn-in as a member of the Smithfield Police Department on November 25th, 2009, after graduating 2nd out of 19 in his class from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is a 2003 graduate of Smithfield High School and graduated from Rhode Island College in 2008, with a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice and a minor in sociology. Captain of the high school baseball team in his senior year, he was also a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society. Officer Phillips was second in his 2009 class at the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy.
Patrol Officer John Beausoleil
Patrol Officer John Beausoleil was sworn-in as a member of the Smithfield Police Department on November 25th, 2009, after graduating 3rd out of 19 in his class from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He graduated from Cumberland High School in 2002 and went on to receive a Bachelors Degree in 2006 and a Master’s Degree in 2008, both in Kinesiology, from the University of Rhode Island. Officer Beausoleil played semi-professional football for four years in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. In his spare time, he enjoys playing and watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
Patrol Officer Jon A. Ricciarelli
Patrol Officer Jon A. Ricciarelli was sworn-in as a member of the Smithfield Police Department on November 25th, 2009, after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is a 2004 graduate of Cumberland High School, where he was an all-division football player and an academic all-division basketball player. In 2008 he earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from Assumption College, where he played football and was named to the student-athlete honor roll.
Patrol Officer Lucas E. Cruse was sworn-in as a member of the Smithfield Police Department on June 25th, 2010, after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is a 2003 graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Connecticut. In 2005 he received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Naugatuck Valley Community College. In 2007, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Justice & Law Administration from Western Connecticut State University. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division.
Patrol Officer Justin E. Ferreira
Patrol Officer Justin E. Ferreira was sworn-in as a member of the Smithfield Police Department on December 17th, 2010, after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is a 2005 graduate of St. Raphael Academy. In 2009 he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Bridgewater State College. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division.

Patrol Officer Michael C. Proulx was sworn-in as a member of the Smithfield Police Department on December 17th, 2010, after graduating from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy. He is a 2003 graduate of North Providence High School. In 2007 he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services & Sciences from the University of Rhode Island. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division.

Patrol Officer Gary W. McDole, Jr. was sworn-in as a member of the Smithfield Police Department on January 3rd, 2011, after having served as a Police Officer for the Brown University Department of Public Safety. In 2005 he received his Associates Degree in Law Enforcement from the Community College of Rhode Island. In 2007 he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Justice Studies from Rhode Island College. He graduated from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy in 2009. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division.
