Georgiaville Pond Beach Drowning – September 5th

Press ReleaseOn Saturday, September 5th, 2015, at 4:24 p.m., Smithfield Police responded to Georgiaville Pond for a report of a missing swimmer.

Police arrived on scene to find beach goers conducting CPR on a male individual, later identified as Augustin Kabura, age 19, of Bodell Avenue, Providence.  Kabura was transported by Smithfield Rescue to St. Joseph’s Hospital (Fatima Unit), where he was pronounced deceased.  According to friends and witnesses at the beach, Kabura and several friends were attempting to swim to an island when Kabura tired and attempted to swim back to shore.  Kabura went under and was eventually pulled from the water by his friends and witnesses at the beach.
