On Friday, July 31, 2020, at 11:45 A.M., Smithfield Detectives arrested Archie Emerson, age 75, retired pastor of the Ocean State Baptist Church in Smithfield, charging him with 2nd, Degree Child Molestation.

Smithfield Detectives received a complaint from a female known to Emerson, reporting she was molested by Emerson from the ages of 6 to 11. Smithfield Detectives obtained a search warrant and an arrest warrant for Emerson and his residence. Detectives seized computers and related items from the residence. Pastor Emerson was taken into custody without incident.

Pastor Emerson was later brought to Third District Court in Warwick, where he appeared before the Honorable Magistrate Joseph P. Ippolito Jr. Bail was set at $50,000 personal recognizance and he is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on October 30th, 2020, to answer the charge.

On Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 11:45 A.M., Smithfield Officers arrested Kellielyn Bianco, age 21, charging her with 1st Degree Robbery and Conspiracy and Kendra Bianco, age 19, both of 379 Douglas Pike Apt. #7, charging her with 1st Degree Robbery, ADW, Possession of a Firearm while Committing a Crime of Violence, Firing in a Compact Area and Conspiracy.

Smithfield Police responded to the Douglas Apartments at 379 Douglas Pike, for a reported Domestic Dispute.  Officers arriving on scene were met in the parking lot by a male subject holding a shotgun.  This male, age 33, of Warwick, told police he had been robbed and had struggled with the assailant, taking the firearm from her.  According to this male, he had met Kellielyn walking on Douglas Pike and went back to the apartment and met her sister.  The male stated he was distracted by Kendra and saw Kellielyn going through his things and taking his money.  The male said he confronted Kellielyn and said he was calling the police, at which time Kendra pulled a shotgun out of the closet and pointed it at him.  The male said he grabbed the end of the shotgun and it discharged striking the kitchen wall.  The male was able to get the firearm away from Kendra and exited the apartment. 

Officers located Kellielyn and Kendra in the adjacent woods, as they had fled the apartment prior to police arrival.  Kellielyn and Kendra were held and brought before Bail Commissioner, Peter Hopkins.  Kellielyn and Kendra were held without bail and remanded to the ACI. 

On Monday, July 20, 2020, Kendra appeared before the Honorable Judge Elaine T. Bucci, and bail was set at $5,000 with surety, Kellielyn appeared before the Honorable Judge Anthony A. Capraro, and was held without bail.

On Thursday, July 9th, 2020, at approximately 10:56 p.m., Smithfield Police were dispatched to a head-on motor vehicle accident on Douglas Pike at the Route 295 overpass. When Smithfield Officers arrived on scene it was determined that the cause of the accident was a vehicle traveling northbound on the southbound side of Douglas Pike causing a head-on collision.

The investigation revealed that Courtney L. Quattrucci, age 22, of 67 Fieldstone Drive, Coventry, was operating a 2013 Dodge Dart northbound on Douglas Pike on the southbound side of the roadway. Quattrucci struck the center dividing guardrail then struck a 2013 Volkswagon Jetta head on. Both vehicle operators were transported to Fatima Hospital for evaluation and Quattrucci was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Quattrucci was released with a summons to appear in Kent County District Court on Tuesday, July 14th, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.

On June 21^st, 2020, at approximately 1:34pm, Smithfield Police responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Putnam Pike in the area of Palmer Street. 

While travelling westbound on Putnam Pike, Bruce Ferreira, age 65, of Pascoag, RI, was operating a decommissioned, five-ton military vehicle, and struck the rear of another westbound vehicle operated by Rachel Ferreira, age 34, of Woodstock, CT.  Mr. Ferreira’s vehicle then entered the oncoming travel lane, striking an eastbound vehicle. 

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, John McKenzie, age 68, of Watertown, MA, succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash.  His passenger, Carol Riggenbach, age 70, also of Watertown, MA, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

The collision remains under investigation.

On Thursday, June 11, 2020, at 11:48 a.m., Smithfield Police and Detectives responded to Navigant Credit Union, 468 Putnam Pike, for a reported robbery.  Initial reports advised a male subject wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a face mask, had run from the bank heading in a westerly direction, after demanding money from the bank teller. 

Officers and Detectives arriving on scene checked the area for the male suspect with negative results.  According to the clerk, the male subject approached the counter, handed the clerk a light colored nylon bag, and told the clerk to put “100’s, 50’s and 20’s in the bag, No dye packs, No GPS!  Hurry the f *** up. Don’t look at me!”  The male subject then grabbed the bag and fled the bank on foot.  The male suspect was described as a light skinned male, possibly white or Hispanic, approximately 5’6’ tall, thin build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over a light colored baseball cap, a blue surgical type face mask, jeans, white sneakers and blue rubber gloves.  The suspect is seen on video surveillance running westerly toward an apartment complex.

On May 30, 2020 at 1:27 am Smithfield Police were called to the scene of a single-car collision with serious injuries on Mountaindale Road. Responding Officers who arrived on scene located the vehicle on its roof and all four occupants outside of the vehicle.

One occupant, a 17 year old female, was found to have serious injuries and was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital by the Smithfield Fire Department. Two other passengers, both 16 year old males, were not injured in the crash.

After an investigation, Smithfield Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, Haleigh M. Ferreira, age 18, for Driving Under the Influence – Serious Bodily Injury Resulting and Reckless Driving. Ferreira was arraigned at the Smithfield Police Department before Bail Commissioner Christopher Millea, and released on $10,000 Personal Recognizance.

The circumstances surrounding this collision, to include prior activities that may have contributed to it, remain under investigation.

On May 27, 2020 at 8:45 a.m., members of the Smithfield Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Greenbrier Road for a report that a window on the residence was damaged by some type of explosive device. Upon arrival, officers noted that the window and screen had been destroyed, and charring could be seen on the frame. The resident and numerous neighbors reported hearing some type of explosion at 5:00 a.m.

Members of the Smithfield Police Detective Division responded to the scene, as well as investigators from the RI State Fire Marshals Office. Evidence on scene indicated that a small improvised explosive device caused the damage to the home. The victims reported to police that they felt it was possibly related to an ongoing dispute that they were having with another individual. The residents had also previously reported that a vehicle was vandalized at the home on May 21, 2020.

Based upon an investigation into the May 21^st incident, Smithfield Police were able to obtain a warrant for the arrest of Anthony D. Rubino, age 35. At approximately 4:30 p.m., Detectives and Patrol Officers responded to 6 Sprague Street in Smithfield and arrested Rubino without incident. Further investigation revealed that Rubino was also responsible for placing the explosive device at the residence on Greenbrier Road earlier in the day.

Smithfield Police charged Anthony Rubino with Placing of Explosive Devices 11-13-9, Arson- 4^th Degree 11-4-5, and Vandalism / Malicious Injury To Property 11-44-1. He was processed at the Smithfield Police Department, then arraigned on the charges in front of Bail Commissioner Christopher Millea. Rubino was released on $10,000 Personal Recognizance on the Felony charges and scheduled to appear for Pre-Arraignment Conference on August 25, 2020. Personal Recognizance was set at $1,000 for the vandalism charge, with a date to appear for Pre-trial of September 15, 2020.
