Smithfield Police Camera Registry Program

SMITHFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT

Camera Registration Program

Register your Security Camera

The Smithfield Police Department wants your help in fighting crime by taking part in the Camera Registry Program (CRP). The CRP allows residents and business owners to register the locations of their video surveillance systems with the Smithfield Police Department. When a crime occurs, police will be able to identify the locations of nearby video cameras and enlist the assistance of the community to help officers collect video evidence and follow up on leads.

Through the program, the Smithfield Police Department will be able to directly contact CRP registrants who are using video in an area in which a crime occurred. Police would ask CRP registrants to check their video surveillance system for a specific date and time for video that may show activity related to a crime, such as a getaway car or the direction that a person of interest was headed. If any video evidence is found, the resident or business owner can contact the Smithfield Police Department at (401) 231-2500 to make arrangements for video retrieval.

Please read the Online Surveillance Camera Policy and Terms of Use

Policy

Registration is voluntary and there is no cost associated with registration. Registering your information does not provide the Smithfield Police Department with direct access to your camera. You may delete your registration at any time by contacting spdcamerareg@gmail.com. An individual’s personal information will be kept confidential by the Smithfield Police Department, unless subject to disclosure by court order. Your information will be accessed by law enforcement personnel who are investigating a crime in the vicinity of where your camera is located.

You will only be contacted by the Smithfield Police Department in the future if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of your security camera. Police personnel, if necessary, may request a copy of any video captured by your camera, which may assist in the investigation of a crime.

Terms of Use

The goal of the program is to deter crime and promote public safety through collaboration between the Smithfield Police Department and the community. Accordingly, all registrants agree to the following terms and conditions:

Any footage containing or related to criminal activity may be collected by the Smithfield Police Department for use as evidence during any stage of a criminal proceeding.

Under no circumstances shall registrants construe that they are acting as an agent and/or employee of the Town of Smithfield and/or the Smithfield Police Department through the program.

If necessary, the Smithfield Police Department will contact you directly, using the information provided, to request the appropriate video surveillance footage.

By submitting this information, the camera registrant understands and agrees to the above policy and terms of use.

Smithfield Police Release Public Relations & Recruitment Video

The Smithfield Police Department has created its first ever public relations & recruitment video. According to Chief Richard P. St.Sauveur, Jr., “this video is intended to provide our residents and business owners with a snapshot of who we are and what we do, while also affording those with an interest in a law enforcement career with a glimpse of one of the best police agencies in New England.”

The concept behind this project originated during last year’s development of annual and multi-year goals & objectives. While such videos are not unique, this video emphasizes the department’s focus on training and community-based activities. It also highlights specialized assignments available within the agency. And thanks to the efforts of Sergeant Orlando Braxton, this video cost nothing. We hope viewers enjoy this video and that potential police officer applicants see what a wonderful town and police department we have.
