Rt. 295 Interchange Information from RIDOT

295The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has initiated a transportation study and Environmental Assessment for improved access to the Interstate Highway System at the existing crossing of Interstate Route 295 (1-295) and Greenville Avenue (State Route 5) in Johnston, Rhode Island. The proposed action at this time is to construct a new interchange at this location that will provide all traffic movements between 1-295 and Greenville Avenue. This project is being undertaken to address planned future development in this area – most notably a major commercial bank campus and regional operations center along Greenville Avenue, just west of 1-295 – and will provide traffic congestion relief along existing arterial roads and at major intersections in the vicinity.

Although the project is in nearby Johnston, we know that Smithfield residents and businesses are concerned about how this project will affect traffic here in town. We have developed a webpage, along with the Town, where you can keep track of any updates.

Please bookmark this page: http://smithfieldri.com/295-info/

RIDOT, and their vendors, will be providing periodic updates on the project and they will be posted on that page when available.

Below is the initial document provided by RIDOT – further updates will be provided on the Town’s website linked above.
  • October 14, 2016 – Informational Brochure (.pdf) – has a form at the end that concerned residents can complete and mail in directly to RIDOT.
