Smithfield Police Arrest Local Man on Marijuana Charges

On Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Smithfield Police arrested Andrew Wilber, age 26, of 305 Stillwater Road, charging him with unlawful manufacturing   of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and distribute a controlled substance near a school. The Smithfield Police received a call from the Smithfield Fire Department who had responded to the residence for a stove fire.  Once on scene, Smithfield Fire observed the marijuana grow operation and alerted police.  Police seized 54 marijuana plants, butane hash oil, over 9 ounces of marijuana, digital scales and packaging materials.

Mr. Wilber was taken into custody without incident and held overnight at the Smithfield Police Station.

On Wednesday, September 14th, Mr. Wilber was taken to Third District Court and appeared before the Honorable Judge Elaine Bucci.  Mr. Wilber was released on $10,000 surety bail and his next scheduled court date is November 29th, 2016.
