Smithfield Police Find Assault Rifle, 47 Marijuana Plants During Search and Arrest

On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at approximately 10:30 a.m., members of the Smithfield police arrested Anthony D. Rubino, age 29, of 6 Sprague Street, Greenville, charging him with Unlawful Manufacturing/Cultivation of Marijuana, Possession with intent to Deliver Marijuana, and two counts of Possession of a Firearm while Committing a Controlled Substance Crime.

The arrest is a result of months of surveillance by Smithfield Detectives which led to a search warrant of the residence at 6 Sprague Street. Police discovered forty-seven (47) marijuana plants growing in the basement of the home. Police also found an AR-15 Assault Rifle, a 9mm handgun along with ammunition for the firearms, harvested marijuana, equipment and growing supplies and $2,190 in cash.

Mr. Rubino was held overnight and brought to Third District Court in the morning. He appeared before Judge William C. Clifton, with bail being set at $20,000 surety. Mr. Rubino’s next scheduled court date is on June 26, 2014.
