Smithfield Police Investigate Single-Car Collision

On May 30, 2020 at 1:27 am Smithfield Police were called to the scene of a single-car collision with serious injuries on Mountaindale Road. Responding Officers who arrived on scene located the vehicle on its roof and all four occupants outside of the vehicle.

One occupant, a 17 year old female, was found to have serious injuries and was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital by the Smithfield Fire Department. Two other passengers, both 16 year old males, were not injured in the crash.

After an investigation, Smithfield Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, Haleigh M. Ferreira, age 18, for Driving Under the Influence – Serious Bodily Injury Resulting and Reckless Driving. Ferreira was arraigned at the Smithfield Police Department before Bail Commissioner Christopher Millea, and released on $10,000 Personal Recognizance.

The circumstances surrounding this collision, to include prior activities that may have contributed to it, remain under investigation.
