SPD Arrests Pawtucket Man for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, DUI  2nd Offense, etc.

On Thursday, January 18th, 2018, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Smithfield Police arrested Michael P. LaFerriere, age 47, of 21 Stephanie Drive, Pawtucket.  LaFerriere was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, DUI  2nd Offense, Resisting Arrest and Operating on a Suspended License 3rd Offense.

Smithfield Police received a call from a Douglas Pike resident, informing police that someone had just stolen his green Ford pickup truck that was parked in his driveway.  Officer Lucas Cruse, who was patrolling Douglas Pike when dispatch broadcasted the crime, spotted the vehicle southbound on Douglas Pike in the area of Interstate 295.  Officer Cruse followed the vehicle, observing it cross over the double yellow center lines several times.  Officer Cruse was able to stop this vehicle in the area of 400 Douglas Pike, where LaFerriere exited the pickup and led Officer Cruse on a brief foot pursuit. Officer Cruse was able to capture LaFerriere and, following a brief struggle, took LaFerriere into custody.

LaFerriere was held overnight and taken to Third District Court, Warwick. LaFerriere appeared before the Honorable Magistrate Joseph P. Ippolito, who set bail in the amount of $10,000 surety.  LaFerriere was also held as a Superior Court violator on an unrelated charge and is next scheduled to appear in Superior Court on April 18th, 2018, to answer the Smithfield charges.
