SPD Press Release

On Thursday, December 23, 2011, at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the Smithfield Police along with North Providence Police arrested, Jason Simone, 19 years of age, of North Providence, charging him with Larceny, Simple Assault, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct and Felony Possession of Hydrocodone.

Members of the Smithfield Police responded to the area of Woodhaven Blvd., as a homeowner observed a male subject inside his vehicle. The homeowner confronted this individual who fled on foot. A description was given out to responding police. The Smithfield Police were able to locate Simone, who fled on foot after a brief struggle with police.

Simone was again spotted in the area by officers, but again eluded police on foot. Officers were able to apprehend Simone after a violent struggle, during which officers need to deploy a taser to make the arrest.

Simone was transported to Fatima Hospital, for minor injuries sustained while resisting police. He is scheduled to be arraigned later today on Smithfield and North Providence charges.
