On February 14th, 2017 the Smithfield Police received two theft complaints from residents in the Putnam Pike section of Greenville. Residents reported a snow blower and lawnmower had been stolen from their yards, during the overnight hours.
Detectives processed the crime scenes and followed shoe impressions and snow blower track marks left in the snow to a nearby area on Sprague St. Surveillance was conducted on a suspect, known to police, who lived in the area.
Kenneth White, age 48, of 6 Sprague Street, Smithfield was observed, by police, wheeling the stolen snow blower into the driveway and loading it into a minivan, which had arrived and was operated by Ronald Borden, age 46, of 8 Brayton Court, Cumberland. As both men loaded the snow blower into the vehicle, police moved in and arrested them.
Mr. White was charged with 2 counts of Receiving Stolen Goods and 1 count of Conspiracy. Mr. Borden was charged with 1 count of Receiving Stolen Goods and 1 count of Conspiracy
Mr. White appeared in Kent County District Court before the Honorable Judge Elaine Bucci, who held White without bail until February 28th, 2017 for Pre-Trial Conference. Mr. Borden appeared before Bail Commissioner George Lazeieh and was released on $1000 surety bail and is to appear for arraignment on February 28th, 2017, in Kent County District Court.
